Frequently asked questions

We aim to provide a warm, safe, and inviting studio setting for you to practice your Pilates. If you cannot find the answer to your questions here, please contact us.

What are our Safety Procedures

Your safety is our top priority! At Northshore Pilates we limit our group classes to four clients and one instructor, and our studio capacity is limited to seven people per session. Hand sanitizer is supplied for our clients and instructors. Although masks are no longer required, we will wear masks if our clients prefer. We use vinyl loops on our equipment, all of which are thoroughly cleaned between each session. All commonly-touched surfaces within the studio are disinfected. We also use a high quality air filter that removes allergens, bacteria, and viruses from the studio on an hourly basis.

new to pilates OR OUR STUDIO

New Pilates students are required to complete at least one private Pilates session before joining a Group Apparatus Class. Depending on a student’s ability and instructors’ assessment, most new students find that several private sessions are helpful in learning the Pilates method prior to joining a group.

what to expect

Please arrive at your scheduled class time. Upon entering the studio, remove outdoor footwear and silence your cell phone.
Please be respectful of others, and speak quietly.

What To Wear

Wear comfortable clothing in which you can easily move. While loose clothing is acceptable, baggy clothing may inhibit an instructor from effectively aligning your posture. Short shorts are not acceptable, as many Pilates movements can be revealing. Although bare feet are recommended for Pilates, grip socks are acceptable. Please refrain from wearing excessive jewelry, and lotion or perfumes with strong scents

What is Pilates

“Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness”  Joseph Pilates

Pilates is a full-body exercise method that was created by Joseph Hubert Pilates over ninety years ago. The Pilates method of  conditioning treats each person as an integrated system, and trains the mind and body simultaneously.  The ultimate goal of each comprehensive workout is a well- developed physique and a focused mind, that result in enhanced mental productivity and physical fitness that work seamlessly together to revitalize the spirit.

At Northshore Pilates, we offer a variety of classes based on the system that Joseph Pilates developed to enhance your physical fitness and well-being. We believe that Pilates is the vehicle to achieving an organized and balanced body. We teach our clients the anatomy and biomechanics of their bodies, and how their form follows function. We help our clients retrain unhealthy movement patterns so that they can learn and perform new motor skills and reduce stress on their bodies. Thus, helping you become your best physical self with enhanced power, flexibility, stamina, posture, and stability.

What To Bring

You do not need to bring anything special to Northshore Pilates - we provide everything you need for your workout. However, you are encouraged to bring your own water bottle and small towel.

Cancelling a class

We require 24-hour advance notice for cancellations via text or email, and offer the opportunity to reschedule promptly. Though we understand unplanned issues arise, circumstances have caused us to enforce a policy of charging the full class fee for no-show and late cancellations.
